Bye Bye Birdie is a Musical about a young man named Conrad Birdie who has just been enlisted to serve in the Army. All the girls in town obsess over him. There are love stories, angry adults, and lots of high spirited teenagers to make the show vibrant. The show was set in 1950’s so I had some concept of what I wanted to do with the design. When I thought of the nicer side of the 50’s I thought of lots of bright colors and pastels. I used a lot of colors for a lot of the different musical numbers with added flashing effects! When working with projections I had to be careful when using my front lights for the second level because if I did it would wash out the projections on the hanging screens.
